TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Cave City woman is charged with fleeing police in a vehicle.

According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police observed a vehicle speeding on Highway 163 near the Metcalfe and Monroe County line on Wednesday.

Authorities say a traffic stop was attempted, however, the vehicle continued traveling.

According to authorities, the vehicle then drove down a driveway before turning around and driving recklessly in the trooper’s direction.

The trooper then got out of the way and notified dispatch that the vehicle was failing to stop, authorities say.

During the pursuit, troopers say the vehicle went over 110 miles per hour, running vehicles off of the roadway.

Spike strips were deployed near JHC Elementary School, causing one tire to be pierced, authorities say. However, troopers say the vehicle continued to flee.

Troopers say they were instructed to terminate the pursuit once they approached Tompkinsville.

The vehicle eventually wrecked at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Highway 163, authorities say.

The driver, 36-year-old Amanda Sanchez of Cave City, was taken into custody.

Sanchez was arrested and transported to the Monroe County ER.

Authorities say they later confirmed Sanchez had not been wearing a seat belt during the pursuit.

She remains at the Barren County Detention Center on charges of speeding 26 mph or greater over the speed limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, reckless driving, improper passing, first-degree wanton endangerment, failure to wear seat belts and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance, second offense.
