(NBC News) — Six men charged as part of a plot to kidnap Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer also considered targeting Virginia’s Governor Ralph Northam according to testimony offered by an FBI agent Tuesday.
Special Agent Richard Trask, testifying during a pre-trial hearing in Grand Rapids, Michigan, described a June 6 meeting in Dublin, Ohio, when anti-government groups from multiple states aired their grievances against Whitmer and Northam for locking down businesses in their bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
“They discussed possible targets, taking a sitting governor, specifically issues with the governor of Michigan and Virginia based on the lockdown orders,” Trask told the court.
An attorney for one of the accused called the plot “big talk between crackpots”. Another suggested his client was entrapped by the FBI.
