Apple Goes 5G

Newly introduced iPhone models will be 5G capable, giving them incredible download speed and capacity. NBC's Liz McLaughlin reports.

(NBC News) — Apple has revealed its next-generation iPhones…all with 5G capability.

That’s being hyped by carriers as life-changing technology.

“The performance is enormous,” says Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg. “That’s where you can get 4 gigabits per second and not only get the high speed, but you get an enormous capacity.”

Downloading a full movie in seconds sounds great, but it will be a while before most Americans will be able to access 5G networks.

Apple says the iPhone 12, priced at about $800, is redesigned to be thinner, lighter and tougher than its predecessor.

Several other new versions will accompany the iPhone 12.
