Save our Kids survey shows several 6-12 graders sent, received nudes in 2018
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – While many children and teens are playing it safe online, the 2018 annual Save our Kids Survey with data collected from the Warren County and Bowling Green city schools shows a high percentage of sixth to 12th grade students sending and or receiving nude photos through their phones.
The survey is conducted by The Save Our Kids Coalition, a non-profit agency dedicated to protecting Warren County’s children from drug abuse and other harmful substances.
The 2018 survey shows over 60 percent of 12th graders surveyed sent nude photos when asked to by someone they knew.
Even more alarming is that over 50 percent of 9th, 10th and 11th graders sent nudes when asked to by someone they didn’t know.
Cyber Safe Teen is a program that teaches 6th to 12th graders the importance of being safe online.
The program provides training and tools to students, educators and parents to prevent sexting, cyberbullying and more.
Cyber Safe Teen, a program through Millstone Labs LLC, provides information to the public about how to keep kids safe in the digital age.
Millstone Labs chief executive officer Michael Lemon, who is a retired cyber detective, said these statistics are high because students don’t know the repercussions of their actions.
Lemon also said once a photo is out there, extortion, inability to pursue careers and suicide can follow.
He advises parents to educate and limit kids on internet access.
