No laws against partying during a pandemic in Kentucky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – In a college town, you might be wondering how college parties will impact the COVID-19 numbers.

Officials at the Western Kentucky University Police Department are encouraging students to maintain social distancing and wear masks when gathering.

But, when it comes to making arrests or breaking up get-togethers, social distancing, group sizes and masks are all guidelines not laws.

Because police can only enforce laws, they can only respond to issues such as public intoxication, excessive noise or other unlawful actions, according to WKU police officer Tim Gray.

WKU COVID-19 numbers are available online via a spreadsheet kept for the public to access here.
