Officer fired after person injured in accidental discharge

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Police in Kentucky say an officer was fired after accidentally discharging his personal handgun while off duty and striking another person. Lexington police said Officer Nickolas Edge reported the incident Sunday when he accidentally discharged his gun. The person hit suffered a finger injury. The department said in a news release that Edge returned to work Tuesday, his first shift since the incident, and was immediately terminated by Chief Lawrence Weathers. Edge had been employed since April 2019 and was a probationary employee. Police say no charges are expected.
