Trump Approval Ratings Take COVID-19 Hit
New poll finds widespread disapproval of President Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic. NBC's Alice Barr reports.
WASHINGTON (NBC News) — With new U.S. coronavirus cases soaring past 77,000 in a single a day, President Trump’s poll numbers are heading in the opposite direction.
A Washington Post-ABC News poll out Friday finds 60 percent disapprove of the president’s pandemic response, a sharp increase since March.
President Trump did not hold any events focused on the growing coronavirus crisis this week, but the White House says that will change.
“His approval rating on the pandemic was higher when he was at the podium. It was 51 percent in March,” says Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway. “I think people want to hear from the President of the United States.”
During those daily briefings, the president was often criticized for overshadowing the advice of medical professionals and giving fuel to the protests against shutdowns and face masks.
