City of Bowling Green passes first reading of new budget

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The city of Bowling Green passed the first reading of its 2020-2021 budget Tuesday evening.

The overall budget is several million dollars less than the current budget due to COVID-19.

The overall proposed budget is just over $114 million for the next fiscal year, while the current budget is around $124 million.

Yet, property taxes aren’t expected to rise in the city for the 17th consecutive year.

While there are fewer dollars to spend, there are several capital projects budgeted, including phase one of the development at Riverfront Park and a new park on Pascoe Blvd.

The second and final reading of the budget will take place Thursday during a special called meeting.
