Dateline NBC will launch an all-new true-crime podcast on May 7, reported by Dateline correspondent Josh Mankiewicz. The six-episode podcast series, Motive for Murder, goes inside the hunt to find an elusive killer after two young friends are murdered months apart in Houston, Texas.

Through conversations with key players in the investigation and Dateline producers, Mankiewicz takes listeners inside one of the most twisted and confounding cases Dateline has ever covered. The first two episodes will be available for download and streaming on any podcast platform on May 7, with the additional four posting on subsequent Thursdays. To hear a preview of the series, click here.

Motive for Murder marks Dateline’s third original podcast, following The Thing About Pam, which made Apple’s top 25 most popular new shows of 2019 and was recently nominated for a Webby award. It was also consistently #1 on the Apple Charts and has received over 9.5 million downloads since its September launch. Additionally, Dateline offers its broadcasts as podcasts, which continue to rank in the top 20 shows on the Apple Charts. Last year, Dateline expanded into podcasts with 13 Alibis, a two-year investigation of a convicted murderer serving 20 years in prison for a crime he claimed he did not commit.

Motive for Murder is produced by Dateline and NBC News. At Dateline, Ann Preisman is the producer and Emily Wickwire is the additional producer. Susan Nalle oversees digital programming, Allison Orr is the senior producer and Adam Gorfain is the senior broadcast producer. Liz Cole is the executive producer and David Corvo is the senior executive producer. From Neon Hum Media, Audrey Ngo and Mary Knauf are producers. Natalie Rinn is the associate producer and Catherine Saint Louis is the editor. Jonathan Hirsch is the executive producer. Original music, sound design and mixing by Andrew Eapen. Additional sound design by Artin Aroutounians and additional production support from Nick White.
