Jerry Whitney aims to be a good Samaritan with free meals

As Thanksgiving inches closer, one good Samaritan wants to ensure no one goes without a meal or a warm place to gather.

Jerry Whitney, or "Uncle Jed" and his wife have held their annual free Thanksgiving meals for the last three years.

For the last two years, Whitney held it at his house inside his auction shed.

Since they ended up serving 200 people, they needed more space.

That’s why Christ the King Catholic church offered to host it in their facilities this year.

The meals will be provided on Sunday at 2:00 PM.

Last year Whitney also offered his shed to get people out of the cold.

This has impacted Tim Reynolds, a Plant Operations Maintenance Tech at Greenview Regional Hospital.

He has not only helped cook the last two years but he attests to the lives changed by Whitney’s efforts.

Reynolds says the meals are open to anyone.

Uncle Jed also has 8-9 Samaritan boxes in poverty-stricken areas where those in need can collect essentials from the boxes.
