Tennessee man charged with attempted murder

Early Sunday morning Warren County Sheriff’s deputies were called after someone reported shots being fired at 5690 Louisville Road, alit 159.

When they arrived at 2:12 a.m. Milton Clemente, 36, of Bowling Green, told deputies that a man later identified as Israel Venegas, 34, of Lafayette, Tenn., showed up at Clemente’s home, pulled a handgun and fired several rounds at him, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Deputies searched the area and found Venegas hiding a nearby car that did not belong to him.

Deputies charged Venegas with attempted murder, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and tampering with physical evidence.

Venegas was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail without bond just before 6 a.m. Sunday.

Clemente told deputies that he didn’t know the man he said shot at him. He was sitting outside with two other people when he said a Hispanic man approached, said his car ran out of gas on Louisville Road and asked for help, according to Venegas’ arrest citation.

Clemente said the gunman got upset for an unknown reason, ordered him to his knees and fired a shot into the air, according to the arrest citation. Once he was on his knees, Clemente said the man put a gun to his head. And when Clemente stood up, he said Venegas fired a shot at his feet.

Venegas is accused of ordering Clemente inside the residence and firing off another round, according to his citation.

Venegas took off and hid inside of a nearby car, according to his citation. Deputies later found a gun shoved up underneath of a seat in the vehicle. They also found, on the side of Louisville Road, a car registered to Venegas.

Venegas was lodged in the Warren County Regional Jail without bond just before 6 a.m. Sunday.
