BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – This past Monday, Oct. 26, Greenwood defeated Owensboro in first round of the 2026 girls soccer state tournament to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2020.

The Lady Gators have their eyes on the programs first state title in seven years.
“I’m so excited,” midfielder Briley Cannon said. “I think that this is a great opportunity for us and honestly to make history, and I think we can make it really far. I’m just really hoping that we can advance to final four.”
Greenwood made it past its first opponent by taking down the Lady Devils 3-0, and now the next team standing in its way is Central Hardin.
The fifth region champion hasn’t lost a single game all season, but the Lady Gators have found their groove in the month of October, not allowing a single goal in regulation since the postseason began.
This week, the team shared what’s been the difference this year and what its going to take to stay alive in state.
“ I think it’s because we all love each other so much, defender Kimber Jarboe said. “We have a really special bond for each other, and we wanna play for each other. We wanna win, and I think that’s really helped us this year.”
“I think if we warm up and just stay focused like we did against Owensboro – I felt like every minute the girls just played the best they could,” head coach Driton Hyseni said. “I think if we come with that mentality, we’ll be all right.”
First touch between Greenwood and Central Hardin is set for Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2 p.m. EST at Central Hardin High School in Elizabethtown.
