Portland police arrest man on child sexual exploitation charges

PORTLAND, Tenn. – A Tennessee man is charged with child sexual exploitation during an investigation.
According to the Portland Police Department, investigators executed a search warrant at a location in the city as part of an ongoing investigation of sexual exploitation of children.
PPD says John Daniel Ray, a registered sex offender designated as violent under the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry, was arrested.
Detectives say Ray “allegedly obtained and maintained a cellular phone and multiple social media accounts that he failed to disclose to law enforcement as required by Tennessee’s sex offender registration laws.”
Ray allegedly possessed hundreds of media files depicting child sexual exploitation on his cell phone.
Ray is charged with ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. He was lodged at the Sumner County Jail on a $161,000 bond.
Detectives say additional charges are possible.
“The Portland Police Department would like to thank the members of the Sumner County Emergency Response Team for their assistance and professionalism during this operation. The Portland Police Department remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting children from sexual exploitation and holding those who engage in these crimes accountable. Our detectives will continue to aggressively investigate crimes involving the exploitation of minors and work alongside our law enforcement partners to identify offenders, protect vulnerable victims, and bring those responsible before the judicial system,” the Portland Police Department said in a statement.
