Tyson Processing Services hit goal of employing over 400 employees, will receive grant

BOWLING GREEN, Ky . – Tyson Processing Services has hit its goal of employing over 400 employees in less than two years since choosing Bowling Green to expand.

“This is the nicest town I’ve lived in in my career,” 

Tyson Processing Services, now employing 451 employees, qualifies for a $250,000 from the state with the help of the City of Bowling Green’s request for the state funded grant.

The grant was promised to the company before choosing to expand to Kentucky.

Mayor Todd Alcott says growing business in the area provides jobs and financial benefit to the city and was thrilled to sign for their employment numbers success. 

“I look back at the time that we decided to expand this transpark. We were right in the middle of COVID. We just had major tornadoes. And to think that, hey, we’re going to double down on investment to try to get people to come here while we were in the national headlights for other reasons was a difficult decision, but it was obviously the right decision. And now there’s 450 families that are supported right here out of Bowling Green, Kentucky,” said Alcott.

Brian Wikel, the local plant manager, says business has been going well.

He also says the plant is actively hiring.

“We’ve just recently added and completely filled the plant up. So we have all lines running to shift to production now. There is the potential for us to expand even within the the brick and mortar that we have current state and add more lines. So we’ll see where that goes longer term. But even short of that, you know, we continue to hire and fill positions as we have openings and vacancies,” said Wikel.

Tyson’s facility was a $350,000,000 investment. 

The local Tyson facility works solely on bacon.
