2 killed by gunshot in Muhlenberg County, police say

BREMEN, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is conducting a death investigation in Muhlenberg County.

According to KSP, troopers responded to assist in a welfare check at a home on Twin Springs Road at approximately 11:37 a.m. on Sept. 8.

Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Office deputies told KSP that they located two gunshot-wound victims inside the home.

Troopers identified the victims as 57-year-old Patrick Kirk and 44-year-old Mary Stewart, both of Bremen.

KSP says both Kirk and Stewart had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.

On Sept. 10, autopsies were conducted on both individuals by the Muhlenberg County Coroner’s Office.

KSP’s investigation indicates that Kirk fatally shot Stewart before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The investigation is ongoing.
