Sunbelt Construction raises $70,000 for Parkinson’s research

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Sunbelt Construction is celebrating 40 years in Bowling Green by giving back to a cause close to the company’s heart.

The construction company recently hosted its inaugural Hard Hats and Hope event at Lost River Cave to raise money and awareness for Parkinson’s research through the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

The event brought members of the construction industry together to support the foundation’s mission.

Sunbelt Construction President Quintin Littrell said Parkinson’s has personally affected his family for the past 16 years.

“Parkinson’s touched our family’s life 16 years ago, which has been an impact to our family and the Sunbelt Construction family for all those years,” Littrell said.

Sunbelt initially set an unofficial fundraising goal of $40,000 — $1,000 for each year the company has been in business.

The event surpassed that goal, raising $70,000.

Littrell said the event was not widely advertised beyond those who were invited, making the fundraising total even more meaningful to the company.

Beyond raising money, Littrell said the event was also about increasing awareness of Parkinson’s disease and its impact on families.

He hopes the effort ultimately helps support research that can lead to a cure.

Sunbelt plans to continue Hard Hats and Hope as an annual event as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary and continues supporting Parkinson’s research.
