Madison County Animal Shelter seeking answers after kittens found taped in tote

BEREA, Ky. – The Madison County Animal Shelter is working to learn more after it says cats and kittens were found taped inside of a tote.

The shelter says it received a complaint about the tote, which it says was believed to have been abandoned between 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Monday, July 27.

Rescuers say the animals “endured unimaginable suffering” after being trapped inside with an outdoor temperature of about 90 degrees Fahrenheit for several hours.

The shelter says two adult male cats and three kittens were found dead, with three kittens surviving.

The tote was located in close proximity to the shelter but was not on shelter property, according to the animal shelter.

If anyone was in the area of 1386 Richmond Road North in Berea during that time and noticed anything unusual or suspicious, the shelter is asking to let it know what was seen.

A tip could help identify those responsible.

“No animal should ever have to endure this kind of cruelty,” the shelter stated. “If you know something, say something.”
