Battle of the Badges Blood Drive returns to Glasgow

GLASGOW, Ky. – Members of the Barren County community gathered at First United Methodist Church to participate in the annual Battle of the Badges blood drive.

The event serves as a friendly competition between the Glasgow Police Department and the Glasgow Fire Department to see which organization can donate the most blood to the American Red Cross.

While the departments compete for bragging rights, organizers say the true purpose of the event is to help meet the ongoing need for blood donations and support patients in need of lifesaving transfusions.

“Every time you donate blood, you’re helping save at least three lives, and there is always a need for blood,” said Kellie McKay of Commonwealth Broadcasting. “You never know when a loved one may need blood, so if you have the opportunity and are eligible, I encourage you to donate.”

Organizers say community support remains a key part of the event’s success and helps ensure local hospitals and healthcare providers have access to critical blood supplies.

The annual blood drive continues to serve as both a community service project and a way for first responders to engage with residents while supporting a lifesaving cause.
