Authorities believe remains of man missing since 2008 found in Green River

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Owensboro Police Department is conducting a death investigation after the vehicle of a missing man was found in the Green River.
According to a release, the OPD was contacted by a local diver and hobbyist who was searching for missing persons in waterways on May 28.
The diver told OPD that he located a vehicle belonging to Charles William Haywood, who had been missing July 31, 2008.
Haywood was 91 at the time of his disappearance.
The diver located Haywood’s vehicle, which was in the Green River near the Spottsville Boat Ramp in Henderson
OPD says the vehicle was transported to their department. Investigators searched the vehicle May 29 and found skeletal remains and a wallet belonging to Haywood.
No foul play is suspected, according to the release.
OPD investigators believe that the remains are those of Haywood.
The remains were transported to the Kentucky Medical Examiner’s Office.
Positive identification is pending, according to the release.
