Alvaton Fire Department asks drivers to slow down for emergency responses

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. – The Alvaton Fire Department is reminding the public of road safety during emergency response calls in stormy weather.
In a social media post Tuesday, first responders say they were dispatched Tuesday morning to multiple vehicle collisions near the 19-mile marker of Interstate 65 on both the northbound and southbound sides.
According to the fire department, fire apparatus were positioned to block accidents for the safety of crews. In addition, cones were places, and additional apparatus were blocking to provide advanced warning of the scene ahead.
During this time, first responders say firefighters still had several close calls with vehicles running over cones, sliding to a stop or almost hitting emergency vehicles or firefighters.
The Alvaton Fire Department states it is “imperative that the traveling public understands that it is state law to slow down and/or move over when approaching stopped emergency vehicles.”
Additionally, when roadways are wet, rain is active or visibility is low, first responders say vehicles should travel at a slow speed with higher awareness.
“While everyone may have somewhere to be, our firefighters have to make it home when the call is over,” the department stated.
