Hart County Animal Shelter announces temporary closure due to kennel cough

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – The Hart County Animal Shelter says it is temporarily closed following a kennel cough outbreak.
According to a social media post on Thursday, the shelter is currently quarantined to prevent the spread of the virus and to keep the animals safe.
The shelter says intakes and adoptions of animals have been suspended during the closure.
The shelter has never had an outbreak of the virus, according to a social media post.
The shelter says it is currently accepting donations of hard toys that cannot be torn apart or eaten, hard bones, long-lasting chews and cleaning products, such as all-purpose cleaners and paper towels.
Kennel cough (canine infectious respiratory disease) is a common canine respiratory infection, according to PetMD.com. The virus is highly contagious and spreads from dog to dog.
