Man charged with burglary of Dollar General in Laurel County
LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. – One man is behind bars after an alleged burglary at a Dollar General in Laurel County.
According to a social media post by Laurel County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff John Root, authorities arrested 34-year-old Darrel Holt of Danville on Wednesday morning about four miles north of London, Kentucky.
Authorities say the arrest took place while a deputy was investigating a burglary that occurred at a Dollar General in east Bernstadt.
According to the sheriff’s office, at 6:45 a.m. deputies were dispatched to a reported break-in, where a front door had allegedly been broken by forced entry into the business.
Authorities say it was also reported that items had been removed from inside of the store. According to a uniform citation, a 24-pack of Mountain Dew valued at roughly $14 was taken from the business.
The suspect allegedly ran from the scene and was found using a description caught on surveillance video, according to authorities.
The sheriff’s office stated the individual was located walking along Kentucky 1376. When a deputy spoke to the suspect, authorities say he advised the suspect he had an outstanding warrant.
Authorities say Holt tensed up and “became uncooperative, trying to pull away” from law enforcement and was taken into custody following a brief struggle.
According to authorities, while being transported to a detention center, Holt showed “erratic behavior.”
Holt was charged with resisting arrest, public intoxication – controlled substances, third-degree burglary and first-degree criminal mischief.
He was additionally charged on a Laurel County District Court bench warrant for failure to appear in court for arraignment on charges of alcohol intoxication in a public place.
Holt was lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center.
