1 dead, 1 flown for treatment after collision between vehicle and buggy in Hart County

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has released the names of the victims in Monday’s collision involving a vehicle and horse and buggy in Munfordville.

According to KSP, at 8:24 a.m. Monday, troopers received a call about an injury collision. Authorities say they responded to the scene in the 1600 block of South Dixie Highway (U.S. 31-W).

Troopers say a preliminary investigation found that a horse and carriage operated by Melvin Miller of Horse Cave was traveling north on South Dixie Highway. A Ford F250 operated by 38-year-old John McBride of Munfordville was also traveling north on South Dixie Highway when it collided with the back end of Melvin Miller’s carriage.

Sara Miller, 81, of Horse Cave, a passenger in the carriage, was transported by Hart County EMS to the Medical Center at Caverna, where she was pronounced dead. Melvin Miller was flown to the University of Louisville, where he will be treated for his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing. KSP was assisted at the scene by the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County EMS, and other KSP personnel.

The scene is clear and the road is open, according to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District Four.

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – One person is dead and another has been flown for treatment after a reported crash between a vehicle and a horse-drawn buggy in Munfordville.

According to Kentucky State Police Post Three Public Affairs Officer Trooper Katan Parker, the collision occurred Monday between the Hart County Fairgrounds and Lonoke Road in Munfordville. Transportation officials say the crash took place on U.S. 31-W.

Parker confirmed one fatality and stated the other individual was last listed in critical condition.

Transportation officials say U.S. 31-W is blocked between the Hart County Fairgrounds and Lonoke Road. Drivers should detour at L&N Turnpike Road at Rowletts via Lonoke Road next to Hart County High School.
