LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – A Grayson County woman was cited after allegedly stealing a cat from an animal shelter.

According to K105, a woman visited the Leitchfield Animal Shelter on Tuesday afternoon and left the facility with a cat without paying for it.

Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Keith Harrell told K105 that he responded to the shelter and reviewed surveillance video. Harrell says the video shows the woman putting the cat down her shirt, avoiding employees, and walking out.

Sgt. Harrell says a shelter employee wrote down the woman’s license plate.

During the investigation, Sgt. Harrell responded to the woman’s home on Byrtle Grove Road. The woman allegedly pulled into the driveway and then quickly left the home. Sgt. Harrell eventually stopped the woman.

K105 says Sgt. Harrell observed the woman pressing down on a large purse, which contained the cat.

Sgt. Harrell told K105 that he said, “Ma’am, let the cat out of the bag. Let the cat out.”

The woman was cited for theft of services.
