Witnesses told officers that Sykes was passing another vehicle in a curve and struck Mackey head-on, according to Ward.

Ward says officers suspect Sykes was under the influence and obtained a search warrant for a blood sample.

Sykes was arrested and is charged with Vehicular Homicide, Wanton Endangerment in the First Degree, Driving Under the Influence, Reckless Driving, Trafficking in Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Sykes was lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
