DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. – One man is facing multiple charges after a reported barricade situation that ended with the man allegedly driving through a garage door.

According to the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office, on Tuesday, the Philpot Fire Department responded to a call regarding a barricaded suspect after a man refused to surrender to deputies who were attempting to serve warrants.

Authorities say they were on scene at a residence in the 5700 block of Old Highway 54.

According to the agency, 37-year-old Kyle Smith was wanted on a charge of first-degree burglary out of Daviess County, as well as on other felonies out of Spencer County, Indiana.

Deputies say negotiations began after they confirmed Smith was in the home and that he was armed with at least one long gun.

Authorities say a Kentucky State Police SWAT Team was requested to respond to the incident as well.

After nearly three hours, deputies say Smith fired at them from inside of the home and drove a vehicle through a closed garage door, exiting the building.

Smith reportedly continued driving until he ran into his own truck, which then hit a parked DSCO cruiser, authorities say. Deputies say he then attempted to drive away on Old Highway 54.

The sheriff’s office and KSP then pursued Smith at speeds close to 100 miles per hour before Smith lost control and crashed, according to authorities.

Smith was taken into custody and treated for injuries before being transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation.

After being medically cleared, he was booked at the Daviess County Detention Center.

He faces 12 counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal mischief and first-degree fleeing or evading police.

The incident remains under investigation. Additional charges are possible.
