Louisville man arrested following three-vehicle collision involving KSP cruiser in Jefferson County

VALLEY STATION, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a collision involving a KSP cruiser in Jefferson County.

KSP says a trooper was injured in a three-vehicle collision in the 15000 block of Dixie Highway in Jefferson County Wednesday.

The initial investigation indicates that 33-year-old David Huggins, of Louisville, was driving southbound on Dixie Highway when his vehicle collided with a pickup truck driven by 69-year-old Michael Nugent, of Shepherdsville. Nugent was traveling southbound.

KSP says Nugent’s truck spun into the northbound lanes and struck a KSP cruiser driven by Trooper Lukas Jones.

Huggins allegedly fled the scene, continuing southbound on Dixie Highway toward Radcliff.

KSP says Huggins was located in Vine Grove and arrested.

Huggins is charged with two counts of second-degree assault, leaving the scene of an accident-failure to render aid or assistance, and driving under the influence 1st offense, aggravated circumstances.

Trooper Jones was transported to Jewish Hospital in Louisville for treatment of minor injuries.

Nugent was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
