2 dead, 2 transported for treatment after crash in Marion County

LEBANON, Ky. – Two people are dead following a two-vehicle crash in Marion County early Monday morning.

According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers were requested to respond to a two-vehicle injury collision just before 5 a.m. EDT Monday on U.S. 68 (Danville Highway) in Marion County.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation revealed 43-year-old Mahalia Brown of Magnolia, Mississippi was traveling west on U.S. 68 when Brown crossed the center line, entering the eastbound lane of U.S. 68 and into the path of a dump truck traveling east on U.S. 68.

Troopers say the dump truck was driven by 49-year-old Christopher Perkins of Campbellsville.

According to authorities, Perkins tried to avoid the collision by braking and steering but was unable to avoid the head-on impact.

Brown, along with a passenger identified as 20-year-old Benjamin Thompson of Magnolia, Mississippi, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Marion County coroner.

A second passenger in Brown’s vehicle, 22-year-old Darian Thompson of Magnolia, Mississippi, was transported to Spring View Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Perkins was transported to Spring View Hospital for minor injuries, authorities say.

KSP Post 15 Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Marion County EMS, Lebanon Fire Department, Gravel Switch Fire Department and the Marion County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
