Human remains identified as missing Prestonburg woman

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. – Remains found in Floyd County have been identified as a missing Kentucky woman.

The Kentucky State Police says troopers received a call from Prestonburg 911 on Tuesday regarding the discovery of human remains in the Prestonburg  community of Floyd County.

Authorities say investigators responded to the area along Kentucky Route 1428, where they found human remains near a river.

Troopers say the body was transported to the Kentucky State Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and was positively identified as 38-year-old Kayla Reffitt of Prestonburg.

Reffitt was previously reported missing to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

The cause of death remains under investigation at this time.
