EAST BERNSTADT, Ky. – A wanted Laurel County man is in custody after barricading himself in a home.

According to a release, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office responded to Starr Hill Road Monday evening to serve a probation violation warrant for a felony offense to 40-year-old Sammy Bowling, of East Bernstadt.

When deputies arrived, Bowling did not comply and barricaded himself inside his home.

Deputies say they could not determine if Bowling had a firearm.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root contacted the LCSO Special Response Team and additional deputies, who negotiated with Bowling for over two hours, according to the release.

Bowling exited the home and was served three outstanding warrants for a probation violation of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense, and two warrants regarding failures to appear in court for child support.

Bowling was arrested and transported to the Laurel County Corrections Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
