Man charged after fraud investigation at Bowling Green Walmart stores

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Tennessee man is behind bars after allegedly using a fake coupon app to buy items at a Bowling Green Walmart.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department was contacted on Tuesday regarding a scam and fraud investigation at 150 Walton Ave.
Authorities say video surveillance showed two subjects, with one later identified as 26-year-old Shamarkius Oldham of Clarksville, Tennessee.
Police say video showed Oldham choosing two boxes of golf balls before scanning the items using a fake coupon app, allowing him to buy them for $17.30 instead of $91.94.
Oldham then traveled to a Walmart at 1202 Morgantown Road. where police say they returned the recently purchased items for a refund of over $90.
Authorities say they then returned to the other Walmart, where Oldham completed five more transactions using the fake coupon app.
Overall, authorities say Oldham completed a total of seven fraudulent transactions while using the app.
The citation states Oldham “acknowledged being at Walmart and purchasing golf balls but refused to cooperate with police in the recovery of the items for Walmart.”
Oldham is charged with misuse of computer information and theft by unlawful taking or disposition shoplifting. He remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
