Man crashes semi, fatally struck by vehicle on I-64

GRAYSON, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a pedestrian death in Carter County.
KSP Post 14 says it received a call from Carter County 911 early Friday morning regarding a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 64 eastbound lanes near the 150 mile-marker.
KSP’s investigation shows that 33-year-old Anwarulhaq Safi was driving a semi-truck when it struck a guardrail and went down a steep embankment and turned onto its side.
Safi then exited his vehicle and climbed the embankment. He reached the eastbound lanes of I-64 and stood in the roadway.
Safi was fatally struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle that struck Safi was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center for evaluation.
Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a contributing factor.
The investigation is ongoing.
