Brandonburg man, woman arrested on drug charges in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Ky. – A Brandonburg man and woman are charged with drug possession following a traffic stop.

According to a release, officers from the Columbia Police Department responded to a reckless driver complaint on Jamestown Street on Tuesday.

Officers conducted a traffic stop in a restaurant parking lot.

During the investigation, officers deployed K9 Cally. Officers say Cally provided a positive alert for an illegal narcotics odor coming from the vehicle.

Officers searched the vehicle and located suspected crystal methamphetamine, suspected fentanyl, pills, and drug paraphernalia, according to the release.

38-year-old Brittney D. Nugent and her passenger, 41-year-old Brandon Maust, both of Brandonburg, were arrested.

Maust is charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (fentanyl), drug paraphernalia — buy/possess, prescription controlled substance not in proper container, 1st offense and possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (drug unspecified)

Nugent is charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree (fentanyl), drug paraphernalia — buy/possess and reckless driving.

Both were lodged at the Adair County Detention Center.
