Carroll County man charged in fatal shooting of brother

CARROLL COUNTY, Ky. – A Carroll County man is charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his brother.

According to a social media post by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on New Castle Pike in Carrollton regarding an unresponsive 32-year-old male.

Authorities say they arrived and discovered Stephan Burgin had died after sustaining a gunshot wound.

According to a uniform citation, the shooting occurred on March 5.

Through an investigation, authorities say they arrested the victim’s brother, 25-year-old Jessie James Burgin of Carrollton, the following day.

Jessie Burgin was transported to the Carroll County Detention Center and faces charges of murder – domestic violence, theft of a firearm, second-degree fleeing or evading police (on foot) and tampering with physical evidence.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Carrollton Police Department, a detective with the Kentucky State Police and the Carroll County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.
