Hilltopper baseball falls to Cincinnati in midweek matchup
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU Baseball fell 5-2 to Cincinnati Tuesday afternoon at Nick Denes Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gage Olsen got the starting nod for the Hilltoppers on Tuesday. He allowed one run on five hits with four strikeouts and a walk in 3.0 innings.
- The Bearcats opened the scoring in the top of the third with an RBI single.
- In the bottom of the frame Ethan Reynolds reached on an error and Parker Coley laced a single to right field to drive in Reynolds.
- Lane Arroyos doubled to right center field and drove in Coley to give WKU a 2-1 lead.
- The Bearcats would hit a solo home run in the fifth to tie the game and would take the lead in the seventh inning before adding a run in the eighth and ninth to defeat the Hilltoppers 5-2.

- Following the loss WKU moves to 7-7 on the year.
- WKU now holds an all-time series lead of 8-2 against the Bearcats.
- The Hilltoppers used seven pitchers on Tuesday afternoon. The staff combined for 14 strikeouts and just five walks, allowing five runs on 12 hits.
- Gage Olsen started for the Hilltoppers on Tuesday and recorded a team high four strikeouts in 3.0 innings of work.
- Conner Wolf, Declan Francis, Ka’olu Holt, Jacob O’Day, Nathan Lawson, and Zack Serup all saw action out of the bullpen Tuesday. Francis led all relievers with three strikeouts in 1.0 inning pitched.
- The three strikeouts for Francis are a new high for the junior who has made three appearances this season.
- Parker Coley led the Hilltoppers on the offensive end, going 2-4 with one RBI.
- Tuesday marked the first two-hit day for Coley in a Hilltopper uniform.
- Lane Arroyos added one hit on four plate appearances and an RBI.
- WKU’s 14 strikeouts in the game matches a season high that was set against SEMO on Feb. 21.
