Natcher Elementary hosts Black History Month Fraternity Showcase

BOWLING GREEN, Ky – Natcher Elementary School celebrated Black History Month today with a high-energy Black fraternity and sorority showcase.

The school’s gym was packed with preschool through sixth-grade students, as members of Western Kentucky University’s Black Greek organizations took the floor.

Organizers of the event said the purpose was to provide the students access to a culture that they may not have been exposed to.

The fraternities and sororities in attendance performed dances that represented their Greek organization for the students.

A power point presentation was also shown, providing the history and goals of each Black fraternity and sorority offered on WKU’s campus.

The host of the Black History Month Showcase, Jaden Marshall, spoke on why he thought Friday’s event was important to share with the students.

Marshall said, “A lot of times, I feel like we don’t take the time to invest in them, right? Investing in the leaders of tomorrow, these kids or that it’s not just middle school and high school because they’re older, because like, getting ready to go to college, know these these kids are leaders as well, and they’re well on the way.”

Marshall also shared the message that he wanted the showcase to provide to the kids, saying, “That’s why I ended today with the statement ‘you are somebody’ because every single one of these kids is someone.”
