Reported standoff in Lyon County ends in arrests

KUTTAWA, Ky. – Two individuals are facing charges after a reported standoff in Lyon County.
According to a uniform citation, after investigating a theft case, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Tuesday on a suspect vehicle described by a witness.
Authorities say the vehicle was leaving a Dollar General off of KY 293 around 8:45 p.m.
The vehicle then tried to flee, authorities say, and the Princeton sheriff positioned his cruiser’s bumper to attempt to stop the vehicle.
Authorities say the fleeing truck then tried to ram the sheriff’s cruiser and push it into the intersection. However, deputies say the sheriff was able to hold the vehicle in place.
Deputies say the driver, identified as 46-year-old Thomas Prevatte of Princeton, refused to exit the vehicle and brandished a gun.
Authorities say after a deputy got to the passenger side of a cruiser, Prevatte put his hands up, refusing verbal commands to exit the vehicle for over an hour.
Prevatte eventually surrendered and was taken into custody.
According to the citation, Prevatte admitted to the theft in this case and stated he had sold the items at a scrap yard. In addition, authorities say the vehicle that attempted to flee was confirmed to be stolen.
Prevatte later admitted to criminal offenses in both Lyon and Caldwell counties, authorities say.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as 48-year-old Angela Cotton Egbert, stated she had been present during the theft.
Prevatte was charged with third-degree criminal trespassing and theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto between $1,000 and $10,000.
Egbert was charged with complicity to theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others between $1,000 and $10,000.
