Bowling Green woman charged with criminal abuse of infant

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green woman is charged with criminal abuse of an infant.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded to a welfare check around 4 a.m. Sunday near Pascoe Boulevard and Pointe Avenue.
Police say a caller stated a woman was lying on the ground next to a “baby car seat” and that she had walked off with the carrier.
Upon arrival, police say they identified the subject as 31-year-old Tiffany Atanasoff of Bowling Green.
Police say Atanasoff was “unsteady on her feet,” “had slurred speech” and smelled of alcohol.
Authorities say a small infant was in a baby carrier with no head support. According to police, the infant did not appear to be moving, was very pale and had a blue tint to the eyelids and lips.
Bowling Green police say an officer requested to place the infant in a heated police cruiser on scene.
Police say the child was cold to the touch, with both arms and legs exposed in a wind chill of 18 degrees. No other coverings were found other than a blanket over the infant’s lap, according to the citation.
Authorities say Atanasoff tugged on the carrier, causing the infant to be jerked around before they were separated.
Atanasoff was taken into custody.
Police say several empty bottles of alcohol were found in a diaper bag.
EMS was called to the scene to evaluate both individuals. Police say EMS stated the infant needed to be transported to a hospital. The infant was then taken to The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Additionally, police say they were told by a female subject that Atanasoff had struck the adult female subject several times on this date.
The infant was placed into police custody, according to the citation.
Atanasoff remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
She faces charges of second-degree criminal abuse, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence, minor injury), alcohol intoxication in a public place, first and second offense and resisting arrest.
