Russellville man allegedly drives under the influence with child in car, police say

ADAIRVILLE, Ky. – A Russellville man is facing drug possession and other charges following a traffic stop with a child in the car.
According to a release, Adairville Police Chief Aaron Ashby conducted a traffic stop at U.S. Highway 431 South and Penroad Road at 11:23 pm on Saturday, December 20.
Ashby says the driver, Jessie James Biggs, 53, of Russellville, showed signs of impairment.
The release states that K9 officer Luna was deployed to conduct an open-air sniff search of the vehicle. Ashby says a positive alert was detected at the front driver’s side door.
Ashby says further investigation of the vehicle led to the location of suspected hydrocodone crushed up into a prescription bottle.
Biggs was searched and a suspected “snorting” straw and a revolver pistol were found in his pockets, according to the release.
Ashby says Biggs consented to a field sobriety test and admitted to smoking methamphetamine and using cocaine and hydrocodone before driving the vehicle.
During the investigation, a child under the age of 12 was located not wearing a seat belt in the front passenger’s seat of the vehicle.
Biggs was arrested and was lodged at the Logan County Jail.
Biggs is charged with failure of non-owner operator to maintain required insurance/security, 1st offense, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a substance (189a.010(1c) – 1st, possession of a controlled substance, 1st degree, 1st off (drug unspecified), drug paraphernalia – buy/possess, prescription of a controlled substance not properly contained, 1st offense and wanton endangerment 1st degree.
