Governor Andy Beshear addresses Ford’s split with BlueOval SK plants in Hardin County
GLENDALE, Ky. – Ford is shifting gears on its electric vehicle plans, and that move impacts a plant right here in Kentucky. Now, Governor Andy Beshear says he’s going to make sure employees that are laid off have jobs.
During his Team Kentucky update Thursday, Beshear discussed Ford’s decision to split from BlueOval SK, saying the company will now take full ownership of the two plants in Hardin County.
As a result, Ford plans to hire 2,100 new employees across both facilities.
Beshear also addressed how the change will affect the 1,600 current employees until the split is finalized in February.
He adds that officials are reviewing all businesses within a 45-mile radius of Glendale, including cities in both Barren and Hart Counties.
“We’re looking at all the companies out there that are hiring, and there are a lot of really good spots with really good companies, so my goal as governor is to present each and every one of the current BlueOval employees, who will have their employment through the middle of February, a lot of options before we reach the middle of February to make sure that they continue to have solid, good employment,” Beshear says.
Hardin County officials say they’re also focusing on doing whatever they can to help those impacted.
