City-County Planning Commission holds meeting to address Cardinal Way property
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The City-County Planning Commission of Bowling Green and Warren County held a meeting Thursday… including a public hearing on a lot at 1337 Cardinal Way.
The lot, previously owned by Tommy Duffer, who passed away in May, was auctioned by Vette City Real Estate and sold to a local developer called Two Toms.
Residents raised concerns after learning one of Two Toms’ owners, Tom Griffin, also works for Vette City, which they say is a red flag.
They also say plans to divide the property into three lots were not shared with Duffer’s children, who owned the lot before the sale.
Neighbors fear if this home is demolished, it could set a precedent for similar developments, potentially changing the character of the neighborhood.
Residents say their goal is simple: to preserve the community as it is for as long as possible.
“This is not just about land, it’s about people… and as you can see, we are all concerned as a neighborhood. A neighborhood is a community of people watching out for each other, not just a profit-making opportunity. Our neighborhood has already lost so much in the tornado… so many beautiful mature trees, so many historic homes. We do not want to lose more,” Lisa Carney, a resident of Cardinal Way and Duffer’s neighbor, says.
After hearing from residents, a proposal was made to give the neighborhood more time to reinstate expired covenants, rules that help determine how a property can be used.
The Planning Commission voted in favor of this change, with Vice Chair Tim Graham of Warren County, Rick Starks of Warren County, Mary Vitale of Bowling Green, Amy Drane of Warren County and Chair Dean Warren of Bowling Green all voting “yes.”
They described this as a public review, a sort of check to make sure the property is following all regulations… and giving the public a chance to voice their opinions on it as well.
News 40 will keep you updated on the property’s future as we learn more.
