Kentucky State Police takes juvenile into custody after shooting in Pike County

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a reported shooting incident in the Pikeville community.

According to a release, Kentucky State Police troopers received a 911 call on Tuesday regarding the shooting.

Troopers responded to the residence on Rays Branch, where authorities say they discovered two juvenile males with gunshot wounds.

Authorities say they learned through an initial investigation that another male involved had discharged a firearm, striking both victims.

The juveniles were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.

One juvenile was taken into custody and lodged in the Breathitt County Juvenile Detention Center.

He faces charges of first-degree assault, possession of a handgun by a minor and tampering with physical evidence.

The investigation remains ongoing.
