Feel Good Friday: Long-time BRAWA general manager announces retirement
BARREN COUNTY, KY.- Big changes are coming for the animals and families of the Barren County community as a familiar face prepares to step aside.
Connie Greer, the general manager of the Barren River Animal Welfare Association, will retire at the end of November after nine years of service. Greer has become a cornerstone of the shelter, dedicating what she calls her “whole heart and soul” to the organization.
She says the decision to divide her role into a shelter manager and an assistant manager will strengthen BRAWA moving forward.
Future manager Tena Edmunds says she looks forward to working closely with assistant manager Angie Herald, who will focus on media outreach and animal promotion.
Greer believes the split responsibilities will allow both leaders to use their skills more effectively for the shelter’s growth. Her departure comes after years marked by challenges, including three floods and the pandemic, when adoptions were carried out in the parking lot. Despite the hardships, Greer says the staff and board have been a vital support system. As the shelter transitions into its new leadership structure, its mission remains unchanged. BRAWA will continue caring for homeless animals while also helping families in need with essentials.
