Kentucky Legal Aid and Barren River Long-Term Care Ombudsman hosting blanket drive

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With colder weather settling in and the holidays right around the corner, more freezing temperatures are on the way. One consequence of that affects many long-term care residents in our community, some of whom need extra warmth or basic hygiene items like blankets and toothbrushes.

That’s where Kentucky Legal Aid is stepping in, partnering with the Barren River Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program to host a drive to help those in need this season.

“We want to make sure that we can support them… and give them not only blankets, but personal care hygiene products as well, so whether that’s soap, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste. We want to make sure they’re new of course. So some individuals will personally make those as far as quilts, but they can also be store bought as well,” Torchia Ingram, an assistant ombudsman with Barren River Long-Term Care, who organized this drive, says.

She started this drive to help those in our community who may not have family members to share the holiday with, and she hopes this can be a little Christmas gift for them.

“Sometimes in our facilities, residents don’t have people who are visiting them often. So something as small as a gift especially in this way during the holiday season can make them feel really appreciated,” Ingram says.

The drive is going on until December 5th. You can drop off items at Kentucky Legal Aid’s office, located at 1700 Destiny Lane in Bowling Green.
