Adair County Elementary Schools soft lockdown lifted

ADAIR COUNTY, Ky. – Adair County Schools says a soft lockdown was issued Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.

The district says the soft lockdown was issued for Adair County Elementary Schools after a teacher reported hearing a gunshot while her students were on the playground near campus.

Adair County Schools says out of an abundance of caution, all schools entered a soft lockdown.

School officials say the situation was quickly reported to the Columbia City Police Department and the Adair County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities arrived on campus and secured the area, the district says, and determined there was no threat.

The district says in total, the lockdown lasted about 13 minutes. Schools resumed normal operations following this incident.
