PCAL celebrates 60 years of memories and growth

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Potter College of Arts and Letters at WKU held a party Friday night to celebrate 60 years of memories.

“We will celebrate the past, present and future of our college by hearing from our wonderful alumni as well as our current and past deans of PCAL,” PCAL Dean’s Council president Aubrey Colburn said to open the festivities.

Back in 1965, the Potter College of Liberal Arts was formed, and now 60 years later, staff, alumni and students gather to recount those 60 years.

“The formation of the Potter College of Arts and Letters in 1965 marked a turning point for our university. At its inception, the college served 820 students across five departments… and today, Potter has grown to serve more than 2,000 students through eight departments in one school, including art and design, English, history, modern languages, music, political science, society, culture, crime and justice studies, theater and dance and the School of Media and Communication,” President Timothy Caboni says.

Over those 60 years, those four letters of PCAL have meant so much to so many students, and Dean Terrance Brown thinks the exact same thing.

“This is a college that is needed and is very much needed in a time that we find ourselves in, as Dean Snyder said… and I am humbled to a student of this college more than a leader,” Brown says.

He also mentioned a way to help shape the future of what PCAL could like called the PCAL Fund for Excellence.

“This is not just a strategic plan. It is a movement that ensures the future of the arts, humanities, media and social sciences at WKU… built on three pillars: efficiency, infrastructure and development. It charts the course for our next chapter,” Dean Brown says.
