September is National Preparedness Month, here’s what to know

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – September is National Preparedness Month, a time to remind families to have a plan and checklist should a disaster hit.
Kentucky Legal Aid is sharing a checklist of important supplies to have on hand.
The list includes the following, according to a social media post:
- Health and Well-Being
- Prescription medications
- Glasses
- Infant formula and diapers
- Additional bedding for cold weather climates
- A fire extinguisher
- Matches in a waterproof container
- Feminine and personal hygiene items
- Hand sanitizer
- Needle and thread
- Plates, cups, disposable utensils, paper towels
- Paper, pencils and books
- Games and puzzles
- Basic Supplies
- Water, including 1 gallon a day for three days
- Chargers for devices
- Car chargers
- Non-perishable food
- Extra batteries
- Flashlight
- First aid kit
- Cash and change
- Blankets and sleeping bags
- Battery powered radio with NOAA weather reception, AM/FM
- First Aid
- First aid manual
- Gauze, pads, adhesive tape, bandages
- Scissors, tweezers, sewing needle
- Antiseptic, disinfectant wipes, soap
- Thermometer, safety pins
- Sunscreen
- Cotton balls, cotton swabs, latex gloves
- Pain reliever, anti-diarrheal medicine
- Clothing
- Rain gear
- At least one change of clothes
- A long-sleeved shirt, long pants, sturdy shoes or boots and gloves
- Pet Supplies
- Food and water for at least a week
- Identification
- Medical, microchip records
- Carrier or cage
- Muzzle, leash
- Water and food bowls
- Medications
- Service animal supplies
