Corvettes roll into Bowling Green school to inspire students

"Cruising into greatness" brings Corvette owners to inspire students at Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – Several students at Parker-Bennett-Curry Elementary got a firsthand look at some of Bowling Green’s most famous creations yesterday when members of Cultural Awareness Corvette Weekend (CACW) rolled up for the 3rd Annual CACW Youth Day.

The event, themed “Cruising into Greatness,” aimed to motivate students while celebrating the city’s connection to the Corvette. CACW Executive Secretary Angela Stephens said the group wanted to show students that success is possible no matter their background.

“We have school teachers, we have truck drivers, if you work hard, honest work, you can do and have whatever you want. And that’s the key here. And it doesn’t matter what color you are as well,” Stephens said.

Despite a steady rain, Stephens said Corvette owners were determined not to disappoint the kids. Students were able to see the cars up close, meet their owners, and receive gifts including posters, wristbands, and raffles for gift cards and backpacks.

Instructional Coach Kanicia Mays said the experience turned something students usually only see on TV into a real-world moment.

“They actually get to touch and see things that they feel are not attainable, today, they were attainable,” Mays said.

Organizers chose Parker-Bennett-Curry for its diverse student body and made a change this year by bringing the event directly to the school instead of having students travel to a show.

Stephens said CACW hopes the experience will leave students with lasting inspiration to work toward their goals, whether or not that dream includes a Corvette.
