Millions of above-ground pools recalled after drownings

(CNN) – Millions of above-ground pools are being recalled after several children have drowned.
The recalled pools are made by Bestway, Intex and Polygroup.
The compression strap that surrounds the outside of the pool can serve as footholds for children, allowing them to climb into the pool even if the ladder is removed.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says nine children have drowned after gaining access to the pools by using the compression strap as a foothold.
The agency also says it is aware of three other incidents of children who gained entry to the pools.
Roughly 5 million of the recalled pools have been sold since 2002.
They were sold in major retailers, such as Walmart and Target, as well as online.
Consumers should contact the manufacturers to request a repair kit.
