(CNN) – A recall is underway for a brand of sausage.

Kayem Foods is recalling more than 24,000 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken sausage.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the company received reports of white pieces of plastic inside the food, which was shipped to retail locations nationwide.

The recall affects the Al Fresco 11-ounce, four-piece pack in the sweet apple variety.

The sausage was produced on June 28 with a freeze-by date of Oct. 1.

Consumers are advised to throw it away or return it to the store for a refund.

So far, no injuries have been reported.
